LIST OF ARADHANAS MARCH 2014

Shri Shri 1008 Shri Satyavrata Theertharu

Aradhana is on 7th March, 2014 (Phalguna masa, Shuddha Shashti).
His brindavana is in Sangli, Maharashtra. Nearest railway station is Miraj. Actually Miraj and Sangli are like twin cities. Sangli is at about 30 minutes from Kolhapur where one can have darshan of Kolhapur Mahalakshmi also. If you travel east from Sangli for about 4 hours or so, you can visit Phandharpur also where Panduranga vittala temple is located. Solapur station is at about an hour from Phandharpur. Sangli is a very strategic location for Madhwa devotees enabling darshan of Kolhapur Mahalakshmi on the one side and Panduranga Vittala on the other side.
Starting from Satyavrata Theertharu only, the prefix ‘Satya’ is kept for all swamijis of Uttaradi Math. He is one of the few swamijis who entered the brindavana live. Uttaradi Math website www.uttaradimath.org has a short write up about Shri Satyavrata Theertharu.

Shri Shri 1008 Shri Satyabodha Theertharu
Aradhana is on 17th March, 2014 (Phalguna Bahula Pratipat
)

His brindavana is in Savanur, Karnataka. Savanur is well connected by train and bus with other parts of Karnataka. On the Bangalore-Hubli route one can get down at Haveri and take a bus to go to Savanur. Alternately one can go from Hubli also, which will take 90 to 120 minutes by bus. There is also a train station called Savanur Road to which a few trains go, but are less frequent.
Satyabodha Theertharu is very famous in and around Hubli. He is known as Nija Kamadhenu and is supposed to shower his devotees with their heart’s desires. He was very famous for some of the miracles he performed during his life time also. Once he is said to have shown ‘Sun’ in the night. He has also written many works and was known for his scholarship. Once when doing naivedhya to Sri Moola Rama devaru he saw the idol changing to blue colour indicating that the naivedya item was poisoned. Knowingly he ate the navideya item with the faith that what is offered to God is equivalent to amruta. Also during another time Ganga river came to Savanur at his request.
The descendants of Shri Satyabodha Theertharu take turns in what is called Paryaya and carry out Savanur Math activities for a duration of one year each. There is a plan by one of them to prepare a Vajra Kavacha to Shri Satyabodha Theertharu by the later part of the year 2015.

Shri Shri 1008 Shri Vadiraja Theertharu
Aradhana is on 19th March, 2014 (Phalguna Bahula Truthiya)

His Brindavana is in Sodhe, Karnataka. Nearest major town is Sirsi. Shri Vadirajaru does not need any introduction. Think of Hayagriva devaru, we normally think of Vadirajaru. It is said that during pooja time, Hayagriva devaru will come in the form a horse and eat from a vessel he would carry atop his head.
Vadirajaru was a great scholar and has written many works. Some of his main works are:
. Yukthi Malika
. Mahabharata Prasthana
. Rukminisha Vijaya
. Sruti Tatva Prakashika
and so on.
He has written a large number of small stotras which are used by many even today. Some of them are:
. Ramesha Stuthi
. Dasavathara Stuthi
. Dasavathara Stotra
. Hayavadana Ashtaka
. Narahari Ashtaka
. Avatara Traya Stotra and many many more
His work ‘Lakshmi Shobane’ parayana is done by ladies and is very popular.
One more work of his is Thirtha Prabhanda describing many holy places and their importance.
Shri Vadirajaru has written many songs in Kannada also.
At Sonda the devotees worship Bhootha Rajaru also. There is a pooja called Bhootha bali that is done every evening in the math. In many houses in Karnataka the photo of Bhootha Rajaru is kept facing the main door and he is supposed to protect devotees from evils.
He also changed the Udupi paryaya system where each paryayastharu does pooja for 2 full years as opposed to two months which was the earlier practice. This helped a lot in the development of the Udupi kshetra itself. Shri Vadirajaru also installed the statue of Shri Madhwacharya in Pajaka kshetra. Shri Vadhiraja Theertharu is a shining star in the galaxy of Madhwa saints.
If we take a look at the list of works Shri Vadirajaru has written, it will be amazing and we will wonder how one person can write so much within one life time. Such is the greatness of Shri Vadiraja Theertharu. The Vadiraja math in Sonda (Sodhe) is maintained very well. There are daily buses to Sodhe from key cities like Bangalore. For all Madhwas, Sonda is a ‘must visit’ kshetra atleast once in this life.

Shri Shri 1008 Vyasaraja Theertharu
Aradhana is on 20th March, 2014 (Phalguna Bahula Chaturthi)

Brindavana is in Nava Brindavana. Best route is to go to Hospet by train or bus and then take a bus to Anegondi or Venkatapura from where one can take a boat to Nava Brindavana. This year is the 475th aradhana of Shri Vyasaraja Theertharu and is being conducted in a grand manner at Nava Brindavana.
Vyasaraja Theertharu does not need any introduction, we are sure. He was one of the greatest in the lineage of Sri Madhwacharya. He was an avatara of Shanku Karna who was born as Prahlada Raya and later as Shri Raghavendra Swamy.
He was known for many things. He has written many works to establish Tatvavada also known as Dwaita philosophy. He was the guru of as many as 3 kings during the Vijayanagara samrajya including Krishna Deva Raya. At one time when there is a bad time called Kuhu Yoga that happened which was supposed to affect the king (Krishna Deva Raya) Shri Vyasarajaru occupied the throne for that short period thus ensuring the king was not affected. To remember this even today in Vyasaraja Math, an evening darbar is held.
Shri Vyasaraja Theertharu also worshipped at Tirupathi for 12 full years when he did daily pooja to Venkataramana Swamy. He also installed as many as 732 Anjaneya statues across the length and breadth of India (a large number of them in South India). Of these 365 are in a place called Penagonda in Andhra Pradesh. The rest are spread across many places in Karnataka, Andhra and Tamil Nadu with a few in Kerala also.
He also gave diksha to Purandara Dasaru and was instrumental in getting so many devara namas to be written by Purandara Dasaru.
His ashrama gurugala is Brahmanya Theertharu (Abbur). Shri Vyasarajaru also opened a pooja box which was not opened for many years from which a Krishna idol came out and started dancing. On being seen by others, the Krishna idol froze as it was. That idol is the main samsthana prathima of Abbur Math also known as Kundapur Vyasaraja Math. The glories of Vyasaraja Theertharu is end less.

Shri Shri 1008 Shri Satyasantushta Theertharu
Aradhana is on 30th March, 2014 (Phalguna Bahula Amavasya)

Brindavana is in Mysore next to the brindavan of his Guru Shri Satyasankalpa Theertharu. He was heading Uttaradi Math for a very short time viz., 8 months. But within 8 months he helped turn around the financial crisis that the Math was facing. He also conducted a vidwat sabha with the support of the then Mysore maharaja. He gave ashrama to Shri Satyaparayana Theertharu.

31st March 2014 is Ugadi, the beginning of the new year ‘Jaya’ nama samvatsara.
Ugadi can be taken to mean ‘Yuga Adhi’ meaning beginning of a new Yuga. In the context of ‘year’ it can be taken to mean a ‘new beginning’ or the beginning of the new year. In Vishnusahasranama there are two names ‘Yugadhi Kruth’ ‘Yugavartho’. It means that Lord Sri Hari is the creator of the chatur yugas in the beginning and is the one who makes the yugas come one after another. In the context of new year, it means that Lord Sri Hari is the one who created the years and is the one who makes the years come one after another. As the new year begins, let us start it with the thinking that Lord Sri Hari is the one who created the new year and who has made it come. Thus we understand that Lord Sri Hari is Sarvothama and may His grace be upon all of you.

MY TRIP TO SONDA VADIRAJA MUTT

Sri Vadirajateertha traditionally 1480 - 1600, a Haridasa, was a Madhwa  Brahmin and native of the village of Hoovinakere, near Kumbhashi in Kundapura taluk,Udupi District in Karnataka state. His parents were Ramacharya and Gauri.[1] He is considered the second highest saint in the Madhva hierarchy, next only to Srimad Ananda Tîrtha, even though his guru was Sri Vyasateertha. He is regarded as an incarnation of Latavya and hence populary known as "BHAVISAMEERA" which means Future Vaayu. He was not only a great poet but also very effective in the administration of the Udupi Matha system. He brought about many changes to the operational system of the Matha which by itself showed his high placing in the Madhvahierarchy.
He became a Sanyasi at the young age of 8. The pre-sanyasa name given to Sri Vadiraja was Bhuvaraha. He worshipped Lord Vishnu in the form of Hayagriva.
It was Sri Vadirajateertha who changed the Paryaya system of Udupi to two years from the earlier practice of 2 months. This extension of each individual Paryaya enabled the Swamis to travel far and wide and spread the message of Madhva tradition. Another of Sri Vadirajateertha's achievements is that he lived a life of 120 years and performed Lord Krishna's Paryaya at Udupi 5 times. He is the first Sanyasi who entered the Vrindavana (his own TOMB) alive after worshipping that for nearly 3 years. The second one who entered the same way is Sri Raghothama tiirtharu and later in 1680's Sri Raghavendra Swamy of Mantralaya entered                                                                                                     Brindavana in a similar fashion.
In an age that knew great Sanskrit scholars and intellects, Sri Vadirajateertha who himself was a great scholar, was able to accommodate the needs of the less scholarly, taking the haridasa tradition to the masses by translating many important works into the Kannada language. He was able to explain sophisticated concepts in the form of simple stotras. About the saint, Dr. B.N.K. Sharma writes "In this respect, his work marks a new and necessary phase in the history of Dvaita literature and breathes the spirit of a new age which produced other popular exponents of Madhva-Siddhânta, both in Sanskrit and in Kannada".
Vadirajateertharu used to offer daily prasadam to Lord Hayagriva by holding the prasadam on his head. Lord Hayagriva is said to appear in the form of a horse and eat the prasadam by kneeling on Vadirajateertha's shoulders.
Vadirajateertharu brindavana is installed in Sodhe temple near Sirsi in Karnataka. The temple also has a pond Dhavalaganga which is very sacred and pilgrims take bath in this pond. The pond has four corners and is available for pilgrims only at 2 corners. One corner of the pond is prohibited since it is believed that Lord Bhutaraja uses that corner of the pond even now. The temple has a tradition wherein every devotee visiting the temple needs to offer coconuts to Lord Bhutaraja (bhavi Rudhra).
